Dear Colleagues:

We invite you to participate in the rich, varied, and challenging professional development opportunities sponsored by the West Metro Education Program (WMEP) for the 2007-08 school year designed to promote student success and community acceptance of differences by providing opportunities for students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds to learn from and with each other.

The WMEP professional development pathway to excellence continues with the Cultural Collaborative workshops, seminars, and conferences that will focus on:

  1. developing partnerships between urban and suburban teachers and administrators to share best practices to meet the needs of diverse student populations in order to achieve equity and excellence
  2. developing capacity to promote cultural understanding and collaboration within each of our individual districts and as a collective.
  3. developing partnerships with community to explore diversity as an important and complex process of life-long growth, learning, and improvement within our community.

WMEP’s second pathway to excellence is the collaboration with the National Urban Alliance.  Many teachers and principals will continue with their third year of professional development while others teachers and principals will begin their journey.  The intensive professional development focuses on accelerating student learning based upon four beliefs:

  1. all children are capable of exceeding high educational standards
  2. intelligence is modifiable, not fixed.
  3. effective teaching is the heart of meaningful school reform, and
  4. the development of children and youth is the responsibility of everyone in the community

WMEP is also continuing a professional development pathway to excellence this year.  In collaboration with the Pacific Educational Group, we will train school-based equity teams.  We will explore and develop strategies for identifying and addressing instructional practices that negatively impact students’ ability to meet rigorous academic standards.

Please invite your colleagues from all of our member districts to join you in one or more of the courses or workshops.  Help us to acknowledge each individual as a valued contributor to our Cultural Collaborative!

*WMEP’s Non-Attendance Terms and Conditions*

Please note that if you register for a course through WMEP's Adult/Teacher
